DIARY 2009

2nd JAN 09
Well the start of another year. The country in recession, ponies not selling, the price of horse feed and hay doubled in price, so it is definitely time to cut back and reduce outgoings. Well that's enough doom and gloom, I'm sure once the sun starts to shine again the outlook will be much brighter, roll on spring and some new foals to brighten up our lives.Winter woolly shows and early spring shows will help to get us through to the summer.
3rd JAN 09
Bought CRAFTY LADY in yesterday to get her ready for an early covering to H.G.RANGER and was surprised to find her in season. The weather is freezing cold but obviously the fine weather has started the mares cycling early which is very good news. Sam took her mare DORIS to Lingfield yesterday to give her a gallop as she is almost ready to go hunting again. She felt really fresh said Sam and having a foal last year appears to have done her the world of good.

5th JAN 09
What is happening to our weather. Feed hay to the mares this morning then had to chase the polar bears away so the mares could eat it. Then I went to break the ice on the water troughs only to find dozens of penguins playing in them. What is going on ?. We will have loads of igloo's appearing soon to out do the travelers. Bring on the sunshine.
7th JAN 09
Nick the tooth man came yesterday to give RANGER his annual check and he is really pleased with his mouth now after the problems we had when he first arrived. He also sorted out WOODY,PERL and Sam's mare DORIS who needed a lot of remedial work to sort out an old problem. They would have all enjoyed their feed last night.

10th JAN 09
Still the big freeze carries on but the forecast suggests that things should start to warm up from tomorrow. The mares spent all day around the hay bales munching to keep warm. They have all held their condition really well and the in foal mares are getting really heavy. We are now more than 3 weeks past the shortest day so the end is well in sight. Ranger wont even venture out of his box and is more than happy to stay in the warm and dry with a couple of haylage nets to keep him company.

18th JAN 09
With the 2009 showing season looming it is time to start organizing what might be ready early. P.PEREGRINE is as fat as a pig and will be ready for the early shows that have stallion classes. P.PERL has developed into a lovely scopey 3 yr old and this grey daughter of PADDOCK PENLLWYD by the now deceased super stallion MOELVIEW CHARMER BOY will hold her own in youngstock classes as she has amazing movement and is up to height. P.JAZZMIN is very forward and is a nice yearling. P.SOVEREIGN is a very tall scopey colt but will need a bit of time as will P.PANSI but will both be strong contenders later in the year.

26th JAN 09
With the sun shining again push the play button for something to really make you smile. It cheers me up every time I watch it. Think its time to get the clippers out and tidy up a few hairy heads.

1st FEB 09
Back home after my last surgery and feeling a bit fragile but optimistic. Loads of pain and house bound for a week or 2 but feeling ok. Looked outside to see it snowing really heavy so glad to be inside. Plenty of hay for the ponies outside thanks to Tim who deserves a medal. Roll on the summer or at least the spring. Snow drops on the front lawn made me smile and the daffs are well up and about to burst into flower.

Cathy Palmer rang to say that her mare had a wonderful filly by RANGER. They are over the moon with her. Pictures as soon as they send them to me. Went to see Rangers first fully registered TB foal today and we were very pleased with what we saw. She is out of Rick Thompsons Petong mare Malingerer and could make a 2yr old. She looks very sharp and comes from a good winning family.

I was also sent pics of 2 more Ranger offspring. The first is his oldest sibling called Puzzle who has just started eventing. He is 5yr old and out of an Irish draft mare
The second is a 3 yr old filly out of a pure Arab mare and she has just been broken in. She is going very well according to her proud owner Sally Fitness

2nd SEPT 09
Called into see Cathy and Melanie Palmer and their filly foal by Ranger out of their Ottergayle mare. They have been raving about it since day 1 and now having seen it I can understand why as she is a stunner. This will be my next super star said Cathy.

With Fayreoaks been and gone Rachel decided it was time to wean her foals. Weaning was very straight forward a both colts have settled really well and are both eating well. Rachel has also brought her new Sec D yearling in and she is doing really well.

1st NOV 09
Albert (Paddy-Peanut) went to join his new owner today and it seems a real success. We wish Amanda the very best of luck and a very long and happy future with Albert

29th NOV 09
Winter is really with us how and most of the ponies are inside again. Still 1 foal to wean but that will happen this week. Rachel still has 2 lovely colts for sale and they will both be ready for the early spring shows. They are both realistically priced to the right homes. Grey colt out of Brookhall Mulberry and a flaxen mained and tailed dark chestnut colt out of Laithehill Plume both by Pennway Peregrine

What a nightmare with so much snow. We are living in a winter wonderland that is far from wonderful. Any ponies less than 12 hh have disappeared. Those inside are nice and snug including a rather large Crafty Lady in foal to Ranger and P.Collette safely infoal to Rio. The only other mare in foal is L.Plume to a late covering to P.Peregrine
